Hi! We are Travis & Beckie. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us and desire to adopt. Here is our story....
In the Beginning
We met at piano lessons when we were in the 9th and 10th grade. We were best friends all through high school, although we did not date until we graduated.
It was Christmas Eve….and the coldest night of that year. Travis proposed to Beckie at an outdoor amphitheatre where we both lived after a candlelit Christmas Eve worship service. Travis told Beckie to walk down the steps of the amphitheatre where a rose was placed on each step. With each rose, Travis shared the pieces of his life that the rose represented. The final rose was in a grouping of heart shaped candles. When Beckie picked up the final rose, Travis told Beckie that she had picked up his heart and proposed.
We were married five months later on the top of a mountain cliff where we celebrated our marriage with family and friends. Our honeymoon took us to a cozy cabin in the mountains where we locked ourselves away and enjoyed the simple things of grocery shopping for the first time as husband and wife. Twelve years later we are still very committed and celebrate that we are the best of friends.
About Us
Beckie grew up in a small town in North Carolina. She lived in a farm house that was over 100 years old, on a small farm with a garden, and many animals. Beckie's parents have been married now for over 50 years, showing Beckie and her siblings how to live a wonderful life, working hard, serving Jesus. Beckie has two brothers and one sister. There are eight nieces and nephews!!! Beckie talks to her family almost daily by phone and visits take place often. They are all very excited about our plans to adopt!
Beckie is fortunate to not work outside of the home. Beckie and Travis own a family business where Beckie helps take care of the book-keeping and miscellaneous duties. Beckie loves being a full-time mother and can’t wait until their family is blessed with another child through adoption! She home-schools both children. In her spare time, Beckie enjoys their two horses, Nory and River, decorating the house, shopping, sewing, spending time with friends, gardening, music, Church activities, and play dates with the kids. Beckie also enjoys mixing digital music and pictures and ballroom dancing.
Travis spent much of his early childhood in South Carolina. Travis’ father went into ministry and moved the family to a small town in North Carolina. Growing up, Travis lived only five miles from Beckie! Travis’ mother and father are still very active in ministry and are a very active part of our lives. Travis had one sister that passed away when he was sixteen. She had two daughters, who now live in South Carolina. Travis also has two brothers, both have two children each. We maintain regular contact with family and visit them as often as we can. In his spare time, Travis enjoys horses, playing sports, playing with the kids, Church activities, and music.
Our Children
We have two biological children, Skye and Stone, who are our joy and delight. Skye is nine years old. She loves art, musical theatre and dance lessons. Skye enjoys reading, playing with her brother, and jumping on the trampoline. She is one who stands out in a crowd and so gifted.
Stone is seven years old. Stone plays soccer. He also enjoys playing with and reinventing his toys, riding bikes to the farm, jumping on the trampoline, and camping in the backyard.
The children have a great group of friends who they have had for most of the life. They have regular play dates with them and enjoy sleepovers and “redecorating” the kitchen with a complete mess. Both of Skye and Stone are very excited about a new baby and can’t wait until he or she arrives.
Friends
We enjoy the strong relationships we have in our friends. Our home is their favorite place. We all love to cook together and have a regular game night each month where we come together and have a blast. We also enjoy weekend trips together to the beach, to the lake or to the mountains around the snow season. We really consider our circle of close friends to be a well rounded, well mixed terrific group of people who are so supportive of us and us of them.
Our Faith
Religion plays a very important role in our lives. We are practicing Christians and are active members of a local non-denominational church. Our relationship with Jesus Christ is the central part of our lives as He provides support, guidance, and encouragement in every aspect of our daily lives. Our goal is to raise our children to know Christ and make Him the center of their lives as well. We were former youth pastors for several years and now we are evangelistic to all ages, traveling to many churches in our area to lead worship and prayer one to two times a month. Our children love to travel and meet new children at the Churches we visit. Worship is also very important to us. Our family room is full of instruments including guitars, a piano, keyboard, and drums. Our home is a great place for our musician friends to come make music and worship anytime. This is one of our favorite ways to spend time as a family... Travis writes songs regularly and we intend to make a few CD’s to share as we travel in the next year or so.
Our Home
We have lived in our city for almost twelve years. After getting married, we moved to the area and began our own business. We live on the most beautiful hidden road, tucked back from the city in a ranch home with a barn, enclosed with fences and beauty and are surrounded by just a few close neighbors. At the end of our road is a large horse farm where we enjoy spending a great deal of family time. Outside our home is a patio with a campfire area and a hammock that we all can fit in! Our favorite yard ornaments are our horses in the pasture in the front of our house.
Besides our horse family, we have several other special members of our family. We have a huge cat named Bradley Epad and two dogs named Pacca and Simon. All of our animals really enjoy our children and are longtime friends. We also have a tank full of fish and a hamster.
About Adoption
Our faith in Christ is so strong as He is leading us to adopt another child. This adoption journey came from a time of prayer and fasting. After suffering three miscarriages already, we know that adoption is the way we are to build our family. We feel that if we are given the opportunity to adopt a child of a different race, we have the knowledge and desire to provide the child with a loving, stimulating home, which will include experiences from his or her ethnic background. We understand the importance of emphasizing heritage and ethnic background and the correlation to healthy self-esteem. We know experiencing his or her ethnicity is a vital piece that must not be overlooked.
