Hi, we’re Brian and Ellen. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. Please know that we are filled with appreciation and respect for your courageous act of seeking a loving family for your baby. We have always looked forward to raising children; however, we were unsuccessful trying to conceive naturally and with the help of reproductive treatments. Adoption is the natural choice to fulfill our dream of becoming parents.
In the Beginning
Although we worked for the same company, we traveled extensively and worked on assignments in different parts of the country. We did; however, have mutual friends and would regularly cross paths when home in North Carolina. Finally, we were both on assignments in Atlanta and went on a date, and have been together since. Based on friendship, shared family values, love, and loyalty, our relationship was “easy”. We dated for 3 years before becoming engaged. Brian proposed during a Labor Day weekend camping trip. After camping Friday night, and hiking and biking Saturday, Brian surprised Ellen with a proposal that afternoon, along with a reservation at a local bed and breakfast. We were very excited to share our news with family and friends!
Both of us participated in planning our wedding. We love the mountains, and knew we wanted to have our wedding there. We were married in a beautiful church in the fall. It was a wonderful event, shared with our closest friends and family who traveled both near and far to help us celebrate. People still comment on how much fun they had at our wedding. We then honeymooned on a beautiful remote island in the British Virgin Islands.
We are
deeply committed to each other, and would like more than anything to
open our hearts and extend our love to a child.
About Us
Ellen was born in the South. She grew up as a “military brat”, living in several southern states. After graduating from high school, Ellen returned to her birth-state to attend college and graduated with a computer related business degree. A job offer brought her to North Carolina. Her current job requires no travel and she feels privileged to work for a company that offers a family friendly environment.
Brian was also born and raised in the South. After graduating from college with a degree in Computer Science, a job offer brought him to North Carolina. Brian is currently a small business owner. His job allows for a flexible work schedule and requires little to no travel.
We describe ourselves as a "down to earth", active, and fun-loving couple. Brian describes Ellen as caring, dependable, and his best friend. Ellen describes Brian as intelligent, devoted, and a lot of fun to be around.
Family
Family is very important to us, and we feel lucky to have both sets of parents living in North Carolina. We see Ellen’s parents often. We enjoy making trips to see them, as well as sharing our home with them when they come to town. Brian’s parents live nearby so we frequently join them for dinner, sporting events, or just helping each other out with home improvement projects.
Ellen has an older sister who lives a few hours away with her husband and two young children. Brian has a younger brother. He and his wife live a short drive from us and are raising three young children. We always look forward to spending birthdays or holidays with our nieces and nephews. We can not wait to bring a child into our home, and introduce it to an extended family that is full of love to share. While our parent’s are very excited to have another grandchild, our nieces and nephews are equally as excited to have a new cousin and playmate!
Home
After living in a suburb for several years, we decided to buy a house that would be closer to our jobs and other conveniences, and give us plenty of room to expand our family. Our home sits in a charming neighborhood where people are always strolling with their children or dogs. Our home is close to excellent schools, several parks, and a library. Soon after we moved in, we shared Thanksgiving with both sets of our parents, Brian’s brother/wife/kids, Brian’s grandmother, and his cousin/wife. What a joy it was spending the holiday with both families. We have enjoyed making this house our home the last two years, but our work will not be complete without the opportunity to raise a child in it.
We currently share our home with 3 adorable cats, all of which were rescued from the animal shelter. Oscar is almost 12 years old, while Buster and Duncan are our spry, younger kitties. They each have their own distinct personality (and signature poses) and are a continuous source of joy and entertainment. Oscar can’t resist an empty box, and is fascinated with dripping water. We count on him to greet us when we step out of the shower each morning. Buster loves crawling in anything…paper bags, backpacks, and is often seen chasing his tail. Duncan is our handsome long haired kitty. He is the most outgoing, and loves for his head to be rubbed. They all enjoy following the sun around the house and finding the perfect place to nap (what a life!).
Vacations
We both share a love for the outdoors, so several of our vacations have included camping and hiking in national parks in Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. We have traveled to Scotland where we drove across the country and toured castles. We have also vacationed in Vermont where we hiked, toured Ben & Jerry’s, and enjoyed some much needed rest and relaxation in some of Vermont’s famous country inns. We like to take an occasional trip to the beach, where Brian can play golf and Ellen can comb the beach for sea shells (if she isn’t riding in the golf cart with Brian). We look forward to taking family vacations, and sharing these experiences with our child.
Hobbies
Brian enjoys reading, tackling home improvement projects, and watching
sports. Ellen enjoys working in the yard, spending time with friends,
and scouring flea markets and antique shops with her mother looking for
hidden "treasures". We both enjoy watching movies, taking long drives
through the country, playing Scrabble, and just relaxing at home with
each other and our cats.
Staying active is important to both of us. Brian is an endurance athlete
and enjoys long distance running, mountain biking, orienteering, and
adventure racing, while Ellen enjoys "social" runs or mountain bike
rides with friends. We both compete in several races each year, some of
which benefit community projects or local charities. Whether it's
participating, volunteering, or supporting a friend or loved one, the
racing community is very family oriented, and we can't wait to get a
jogging stroller, and include our child in all of the fun.
In Closing
We hope that you have been able to get to know us a little better and hope to ease your mind by promising you that your child will grow up in a fun, nurturing home where we have a devotion to your child's happiness and well-being.
